OVERVIEW+ Comes in an 4" plastic container.
Native to the rainforests of Southern Asia. This beautiful plant features a silverish sheen to its leaves. Prized for its leafs.
CLASSIFICATION / GENUS:
Alocasia Baginda / Alocasia Silver Dragon / Cuprea
Can grow up to 3 feet in height indoors.
Alocasias love warmth, so make sure your indoor temperatures stay above 60 degrees. Avoid placing it in a cold drafty location that has frequent temperature changes. Can grow outdoors in zones 10 to 12.
Considered a high maintenance plant, due to its humidity requirements.
The Alocasia loves bright indirect light. Or even filtered sunlight. It does not love intense direct sun on its leaves. So, keep out of windows that get that late afternoon sunlight. It also does not do well in a darker room.
This plant likes to be relatively moist, but not wet or saturated. In winter time this plant does go through a dormant period, similar to cacti, so don't overwater it, but do keep it in a warm spot. It also is considered a higher humidity plant, so don't forget to mist, or keep it on a pebble tray. It is also known to really love lukewarm showers when it's time to water!
Loves organic-rich soil (such as a peat based or coir), that is full of nutrients.
DOES IT FLOWER?
IS IT POISONOUS/TOXIC?
Yes. Every part of this plant is poisonous and causes immediate discomfort to those who have consumed it.
CAN IT BE PROPAGATED FROM CUTTINGS?
Yes, but through division rather than cutting. You need to cut off one of its rhizomes at its roots, and replant this.
Common Problems: Root rot from overwatering or brown leaf tips and edges from too little watering. Like Goldilocks and the three bears, you just need to find the "just right" watering schedule. Common Pests: Spider Mites and Aphids
WINTER TRAVEL: PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PURCHASE A HEAT-PACK (FOUND WITHIN OUR STORE) IF THE PLANT IS TRAVELING IN BELOW 50 DEGREE WEATHER.
