OVERVIEW

+ Comes in a 8" plastic hanging basket.

The Malaysian Orchid (or fondly referred to as the Malaysian Grape), is a beautiful evergreen that will often attach itself to trees in the wild (much like an orchid). It is considered a semi-epiphytic plant, that develops clusters of flowers that resemble, you guessed it, grapes.
CLASSIFICATION / GENUS:
Melastomataceae / Medinilla
COMMON NAMES:
Medinilla Myriantha / Malaysian Orchid / Malaysian Grapes
PLANT SIZE:
This plant can grow up to six feet in height outdoors. Indoors, it is a great container plant.
COLD HARDINESS:
Grown outdoors it prefers being in zones 10-12. This plant does not like extreme temperatures (eg too cold or too hot), it is comfortable in a 60-70 degree F range. The lowest temperature for this plant is 50 degrees F.
MAINTENANCE:
Low Maintenance
LIGHT:
Prefers Bright indirect light, but can tolerate moderate light, making it a great indoor plant. Outdoors it is use to filtered light underneath a tree canopy.
WATERING:
It enjoys semi-moist soil (never soggy), and can go a bit on the dry conditions for its soil. Once a week watering is ideal.  It does like to be misted, and or be near a humidifier. While it doesn't mind its soil drying out, it does like a bit of humidity in the air.
SOIL:
Likes well-draining medium, that's rich in humus, or it can do well in equal parts peat moss, perlite, and potting soil.  Recommended to add about a half of bits of orchid bark to either mixture.
DOES IT FLOWER?
Yes, pink flowers that cluster in the form of grapes and hold their blossoms for many weeks. Eventually the flower will turn purple.
IS IT POISONOUS/TOXIC?
Neither
CAN IT BE PROPAGATED FROM CUTTINGS?
The easiest way is through division of an existing plant. It can be grown through seeds as well.
POSSIBLE ISSUES:
Common Pests: Mites, Mealy, and slugs (if grown outdoors).

WINTER TRAVEL: PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PURCHASE A HEAT-PACK (FOUND WITHIN OUR STORE) IF THE PLANT IS TRAVELING IN BELOW 50 DEGREE WEATHER.
