Calathea White Fusion
OVERVIEW+ Comes in an 6" plastic container.
The fusion white calathea is a 2007 cultivar by the inventor Taiyan Yam from a commercial nursery in Malaysia.
CLASSIFICATION / GENUS:
Marantaceae / calathea
Calathea White fusion / Calathea leitzei / White Fusion Peacock Plant
Mature plants can reach up to 24 inches high and wide.
65-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Intolerant to colder temperatures or drafts.
All calatheas are notoriously high maintenance plants. Make sure to give it bright indirect light, warm temperatures, and consistent soil moisture. If the tips of the leaves are turning yellow, your watering conditions need to be adjusted.
Prefers bright to medium indirect light. They also like warmer conditions, so make sure to place this in a place that is not drafty and maintains a consistent temperature. Direct sunlight will cause leaf burn and in some cases fading of the markings. They also do not do well in low light conditions.
Likes consistently moist, well-draining soil. They like high humidity and light misting. If you cannot provide humidity levels, a pebble trey will do. If you notice curling leaves (that have nothing to do with nyctinastic cycles) it's not getting enough water, if you notice brown edges, it is being underwater, if it has pale/wilting/or droopy leaves, it is being overwatered.
Loves organic-rich soil (such as a peat based or coir), that is full of nutrients.
DOES IT FLOWER?
IS IT POISONOUS/TOXIC?
CAN IT BE PROPAGATED FROM CUTTINGS?
Yes, propagation happens through division. Clear the plant of dirt, and divide stalks from the main roots. Stick in root powder and replant directly, or use water propagation.
Common Problems: Root rot from overwatering or brown leaf tips and edges from too little watering. Like Goldilocks and the three bears, you just need to find the "just right" watering schedule. Common Pests: Spider Mites, Mealy, and Aphids. Do not use leaf shine on a Calathea, it will damage the leaves, if the leaves need to be cleaned, just give it a shower, and wipe down with cloth.
WINTER TRAVEL: PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PURCHASE A HEAT-PACK (FOUND WITHIN OUR STORE) IF THE PLANT IS TRAVELING IN BELOW 50 DEGREE WEATHER.
