Hoya Latifolia 'Albo-Marginata' (8" Pot)

OVERVIEW

The Latifolia Albo-Marginata (previously called the Macrophylla Albo Marginata, which if we were being honest we like this name better) is by far one of our favorite hoyas, while the flowers are nothing particularly showy, the leaves on this hoya are outstanding. Beautiful chunky and waffled green leaves with a yellow or cream-colored edging (which can also develop an additional red lining). In their mature state they can be almost hand-sized. The Latifolia sets its origins in Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, and is considered an evergreen flowering climber.

LIGHT: 
Hoya Macrophyllas love bright BUT indirect light. Make sure they receive minimal direct sun on their leaves if you have no other place to put them. While some sun will bring out an interesting reddish pink tinge around the leaves edges, too much direct sun can burn the interesting leaves. If you begin to see white spots beginning to form on your leaves, they are becoming sun scorched, and the plant should be relocated immediately.
WATERING: 
Like most hoyas the Latifolia does not like soggy water. We recommend watering once a week, particularly if the top soil goes dry. They like to have semi dampish to dry soil. 
SOIL: 
A good mixture of free draining soil is recommended for a Latifolia. 50% regular potting soil (or coir) + 25% perlite (and if you want to add +25% orchid bark, you can as well. There chunkier vines are very similar to the orchid and can stand to have larger bits of bark in its soil. With orchid bark though, water can move through quickly, so take care that there is still some moisture being retained, and the plant isn't overtly drying out.)
DOES IT FLOWER? 
Yes. They develop pinkish white flowers 
IS IT POISONOUS/TOXIC? 
All Hoyas are considered toxic (as they produce sap similar to the milkweed), but not necessarily poisonous, the amount of ingestion varies from animal, but on a whole the ASPCA regards them as safe to have around pets and children. 
CAN IT BE PROPAGATED FROM CUTTINGS? 
Yes. Like most hoyas growing from a cutting is quite common. This current 8" pot is actually comprised of approximately 10 rooted cuttings. To propagate the macro, you need to take a cutting that includes what we would call a "fork in the road" leaf structure, meaning if you see the node split into two leaves, cut below this to the next node down on the vine, so that the two leaves can propagate into a successful plant. 
POSSIBLE ISSUES: 
Common Pests: Spider Mites and Mealy bugs. / Common diseases: root rot. / Most common demise of this plant is letting it dry out too much between waterings.
