Philodendron Brasil (6" pot)
+ Comes in a 6" plastic container.
Heart shaped philodendron, which features a variegated yellow stripe that has been in cultivation for a minimum of 3 years (which means that the yellow should stay stable and not go back to green). This is called the Brasil, due to similar color combinations being inverted. An easy grower, it is also a vining plant, and would be great in a hanging basket, or on a shelf.
CLASSIFICATION / GENUS:
Araceae / Philodendron
Silver Stripe / Philodendron Brasil / Cream Splash
Like most philodendrons, if given the right conditions and space this plant can trail quite long.
This plant prefers temperatures in the 60-75 degree range. Keep away from drafty locations.
Low Maintenance. Great beginner plant.
Bright indirect light, direct sun can scorch its leaves. Can also thrive in low light conditions, but is not favorable.
The Silver Stripe likes to have moist soil, primarily during the summer months, you can let it go a little drier though during winter. Regular weekly watering is recommended, along with daily (or every other day) misting of the leaves.
Recommend 70% potting soil (or coir) + 25% perlite + 5% charcoal
DOES IT FLOWER?
Yes, this is an orchid after all. They will have large flowering spikes that shoot out from the stems in Autumn / Fall and Winter. They are dainty little flowers along the stems, usually white flowers with yellow centers. If the temps are just right they can last for a few weeks to a month.
IS IT POISONOUS/TOXIC?
CAN IT BE PROPAGATED FROM CUTTINGS?
Yes. Best time would be during the spring or early summer months, just take a cutting with a node on it, water propagate for root growth, and then plant in soil with root powder.
This is a fast-growing philodendron, so may need to be repotted if roots begin to show underneath the pot.
WINTER TRAVEL: PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PURCHASE A HEAT-PACK (FOUND WITHIN OUR STORE) IF THE PLANT IS TRAVELING IN BELOW 50 DEGREE WEATHER.
