Portulaca Molokiniensis Succulent

This rare species of portulaca is restricted to a few coastal sites on Maui. It can be found in volcanic tuff, detritus at the base of sea cliffs, and on steep rocky slopes. We cannot help but think of the Capital Records building with the distinct leaf positioning on this succulent.

Can grow up to 12 inches tall, as a succulent, they do like to spread out given the space.
Can be planted outdoors in Zone 9a - 11b.
Very low maintenance
Loves full sunlight. They do excellent for high heat and drought tolerance and will seed and spread themselves given optimal conditions.
Do not overwater this plant, it prefers to have its soil dry out between waterings. Like a lot of succulents, it retains water within its stalks, so overwatering it can lead to rot.
Grown best in well-draining succulent/cactus soil. Prefers sandy, well draining soil.
DOES IT FLOWER?
Yes. Yellow flowers. Each flower will open for one day, each stalk can produce several flowers.
IS IT POISONOUS/TOXIC?
CAN IT BE PROPAGATED FROM CUTTINGS?
Yes, like most succulents you can replant a cutting from the plant. The Molokiniensis also shoots little babies from its stalks, these can be cut off and replanted easily.
Pests: prone to slugs, ants, mealy bugs, scale, spider mites, aphids, root mealy and scale. Fungal rot can be a major problem so do not let water remain on the surface or allow the soil to become saturated for long periods.
