THE LEGACY:

A true cut of Kentucky heritage.  The wood used here is on its fourth life:  first as an old-growth Cypress, then felled and milled into dimensional lumber for the fabrication of fermenting vats for at the legendary Kentucky River Distillery at Camp Nelson in Jessamine County, KY, itself now recognized as a national monument.  My grandfather, C.M. Johnson, the maintenance supervisor and employee of the distillery for nearly 30 years, breathed the third life into a decommissioned fermenter by taking the seasoned staves to Lexington in the 1960's where they served as a rather impressive fence for our family home for the next almost 60 years.  When the family property was sold in 2020, I knew the wood had to come with us.  Now this rare wood begins what I hope will be its fourth life, in the form of these pot racks.

I've planed, shaped, sanded, and finished this wood (each piece has been sealed with a water-based polyurethane) but I felt it was more poetic to celebrate its history and journey by working with, rather than trying to mask the blemishes.  Therefore each piece may feature a variety of markings, from natural stains to nail holes to all abrasions in between, befitting a remarkable 100+ year-old material that we can now share with you.  This will be a limited edition due to the obviously finite stock, though we've yet to determine how many will be made.

OVERVIEW:

This minimalist design works great for tight spaces and includes sliding metal 'S' hooks that allow you to arrange pots, pans, and plants freely. Makes a dynamite display for hanging plants in windows!

For buyers in Alaska and Hawaii, please contact us for a shipping review as additional charges may apply.

A NOTE ABOUT OPTIONS:

Please note that the options pictured here are the ones that will be sent!  Each piece is totally unique and as such, color and markings can vary widely.  We've pictured both sides of the pot rack for your review.  If you'd like to see additional pictures of specific options, please let us know.

DIMENSIONS:

Single wooden bar is approximately 30 inches long x 2 inches wide x 2 inches tall.

CHAIN LENGTH:

Unless otherwise requested, I include 12 inch lengths of chain. For a typical 8ft ceiling height, this puts the hanging bar approximately 6'-5" above the floor. The sliding hooks hang down another 2 1/2 inches.

If you'd like to determine a different height, use this formula:
Length of chain + 7 inches = Full assembled product height.

Subtract this number from your ceiling height and you will get the approximate hanging bar height. Keep in mind that if you change your mind later about the length of chain, it can easily be cut with a pair of lightweight bolt cutters.

 FEATURES:

+ Reclaimed old-growth Cypress
+ (10) sliding metal 'S' hooks
+ 12 inch hanging chains (up to 70 lb. load limit): can be cut to length.
+ Ceiling hooks, toggles, screws, and simple mounting instructions are provided. Hardware is designed for typical gypsum board or plaster ceilings. It is the responsibility of the installer to determine the appropriate anchoring method for their particular ceiling condition.
+ All wood products feature Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey Polyurethane, a USDA Certified Bio-based product.
